Rachel Bilson Fuels Up At Jamba Juice
Sunday, March 9th, 2008 at 10:01 amRachael Bilson was recently spotted making a pit-stop at a local Jamba Juice. This high-end chain of smoothies boasts over 700 locations and operates in over 21 states, the District of Columbia and the Bahamas. They have become one of the nation’s best known smoothie chains, emphasizing the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
But is Jamba Juice really all that healthy? Did Rachel make a smart snack choice?
I’m not sure what Rachael purchased, but if she walked away with the popular Orange Dream Machine smoothie - she needs to keep on walking to burn off all of those calories. This diet crashing culprit packs 540 calories for one 24-ounce original serving size.
“Based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, their recommended diet contains 2000-calories. Therefore, one original smoothie equals one-quarter of a person’s daily calories. - www.soc.hawaii.edu/
In fact, according to wikipedia.com, all of Jamba Juice’s regular smoothies contain more sugar than is recommended by the USDA to consume in one day. However, don’t give up on Jamba Juices just yet. Back in 2004 Jamba Juice introduced, “Jamba Light” smoothies, which contain less sugar and fewer calories and carbohydrates. The Lower-calorie dairy base is made with Splenda, non-fat milk and whey protein. In order to produce a healthier drink, Jamba Juice spent two years at a California research and development lab in attempt to create a low-cal, low sugar smoothie.
“We removed the sherbet/sorbet/non-fat vanilla yogurt (depending on the product) as well as reduced the amount of fruit juice on average by 2/3. Then we added more fruit to keep the same great taste, as well as a proprietary low calorie smoothie base, called the lower calorie dairy base. The four “Enlightened Smoothies” flavors have between 280 to 320 calories.” - www.soc.hawaii.edu/
