Every time I enter the cereal aisle of the supermarket I experience a panic attack, (o.k. - so maybe I’m slightly exaggerating), but there are just way too many options to choose from! I spend so much time comparing labels, looking for new brands, and in the end - I don’t always love my final choice. So when I read these top three cereals to spoon by registered dietitian Dawn Blatner, I couldn’t wait to share them with all of you. The Rock Is Cookin

Monday, March 10th, 2008 at 2:00 pm

Rockleavinggym

Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. Dwayne Johnson, aka “The Rock” is one of the finer FitCelebs in my book! This wrestler/actor starts every day with a workout (surprised anyone?), but he laughs off any suggestion that he has his manager scout out gyms in each of the towns he visits to ensure they have weights that are heavy enough.

“Who said that? That’s another bad rumor. I don’t work out that heavy at all.” News.com.au

He says the only thing he requires is that the gym he goes to makes him really sweat.

“So many gyms today have the air-conditioning at 18C and people are chatting away having a wonderful time,” he says.

“When it’s time to work, it’s time to work. It has to smell a bit. You have to get sweaty and dirty. If you’re going to be an animal, you have to be an animal.”

“I really enjoy working out and training. It’s a lifestyle for me and I love it. It starts my day.”

Dedicated and fine. Does it get better than that?

Monday, March 10th, 2008 at 1:00 pm

 JenniferHudson.Grammys

Jennifer Hudson, who is only 26 years old, has definitely been busy in the past few years. From getting kicked off American Idol to winning an Oscar for her role in “Dreamgirls” to starring in the new “Sex and the City” movie, luck is on her side! Jennifer is another “FitCeleb” who embraces her weight, which is rare in Hollywood. As everyone around her turns to stick figures, Jennifer says:

I wouldn’t change myself for anything or anybody. That will never happen.”  OK Magazine

You may have noticed that when Jennifer was on “American Idol“, she was curvy and then had to gain another 20 pounds for her role in “Dreamgirls“, but by the time she won her Oscar she had already lost 25 pounds. OK! Magazine asked Jennifer how she did it. Here’s what she had to say:

It’s hard to exercise, but we barely ever have time to sit down. Moving around a lot is enough exercise, so I eat right.”

jessica-simpsonmainpostpicduke.jpg

Back in 2005, Jessica Simpson played the infamous Daisy Duke in the - “should have waited to watch it on HBO film” - The Dukes Of Hazard. Although, the quality of Jessica ‘s dramatic performance was “debatable”, there is one thing you can’t argue – she looked smoking hot in those shorts! In fact, Jessica’s derrière was so impressive - the tabloids and gossips blogs were claiming she wore padded shorts! So how did Jessica tone up in time to look so good in those “daisy dukes’”?

Jessica worked out with celebrity trainer and old time friend Mike Alexander. Mike explains that Jessica’s routine:

“required three grueling months of hitting the gym six days a week for about a 1 hour and a half per session to get those great legs and rounded booty. In fact, once Jessica saw the results of her hard work, she asked wardrobe to make those shorts even shorter.” - Fitness Rx magazine

FruitDrinks

Check out these 3 refreshing ways to get the nutrients every woman over 40 (or under!) needs. These low-cal, alcohol free drinks were developed especially for More magazine by Nutritionist Wendy Hess.

Rose Hip-Pineapple Punch
Makes one 8-ounce serving

Ingredients:

  • 4 ounces (1/2 cup) rose hip tea (such as Celestial Seasonings Red Zinger)
  • 2-3 ice cubes or 1/2 cuo crushed ice
  • 4 ounces (1/2 cup) unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 2-3 fresh peppermint leaves

Directions:

Brew rose hip tea according to package directions; refrigerate until chilled. Place ice in tall glass, pour in tea and pineapple juice, stir, and garnish with mint.

WHY IT’S GOOD FOR YOU: The powder form of Rose Hips, the tart fruit of the rose flower, may help relieve osteoarthritis symptoms, says Mark Blumenthal, of the nonprofit American Botanical Council, in Austin, Texas. A compound in the plant has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect that can help alleviate pain and stiffness and may reduce the need for medication, according to Phytotherapy Research’s review of studies on the subject.

PINEAPPLE JUICE is loaded with Vitamin C. In fact, just four ounces of it provides 12.5 of the 75 milligrams your body needs each day. Aside from helping to boost immunity, vitamin C is essential for the production of collagen, the connective tissue that helps keep skin looking young and smooth.
