Looking For A Unique Workout: Try Sandbag Lifting

Mariska Hargitay, the 44 year old star of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, stays toned by lifting sandbags. Apparently, Mariska is not alone, Claire Danes also shapes up by hoisting these heavy hitters. According to Self Magazine, both of these celebrities workout at the trendy Peak Performance Gym in NYC’s Flatiron district. This power-training only gym offers a special class on hoisting sandbags.

What’s the Skinny On Sandbag Lifting:

This all-over body toning workout requires the user to stand with a sandbag between her feet. Next, the user must squat, pick up the bag, and raise it to shoulder height with arms extended. Finally, stand up and drop the bag.

“Sandbag lifting shares a lot in common with kettlebells with regard to their ability to challenge not only strength, but endurance as well. A good bag will force the lifter to maneuver and adjust to the awkward weight. This definitely causes the body to use more muscles and expend greater energy as it is hard to get into one consistent groove.” - DragonDoor.com

Would you ever guess that Keanu Reeves is 43 years old?! Who knew? I certainly didn’t! He is definitely a FitCeleb in my book, especially to still have the dedication he does in regards to his fitness. Nice to see that it’s not just about “Hollywood” to him, and he stays focused and dedicated to staying healthy. Keanu Says:

Take A Look At Pink’s “Break-Up Abs”

I truly believe that nothing is better for the body than a good old fashioned break up. Pink is living proof of this truism. After recently splitting from her husband of two years, Carey Hart, Pink’s body looks amazing! These breaking photos of pink reveal her washboard like abs.  So what is Pink’s secret? Well besides the motivation to make her ex want to eat his “possibly” cheating heart out, she is a workout machine.

Pink has never been one to live by the “size zero” mantra. However, this 28 year old FitCeleb always looks fit and toned. In fact, rumor has it that Pink runs up to 60 minutes a day and loves to practice yoga. In addition, she has also trained with celebrity trainer Gregory Joujon-Roche. From a nutrition stand point, Pink has admitted to using the Master Cleanse Diet to quickly slim down in time for her 2006 wedding. Thankfully, she now abides by a more balanced diet. Pink is a huge PETA advocate and in recent years she has converted to a Vegan lifestyle.

Valerie Bertinelli Reveals All

As you all may know by now, Valerie Bertinelli has been a huge inspiration over the past few months (or more). She used to weigh 172 pounds at 5′4″ but as the new spokeswoman for Jenny Craig, she lost 40 pounds - and she’s keeping it off! Ladies’ Home Journal featured her on the cover of their April issue and here’s what she had to say:

About being so petite and by no means “obese”:

“I was a size 14. But I was 10 pounds short of the weight I was when I gave birth to my son. I was fat for me. My knees were killing me. I couldn’t walk up the stairs without breathing heavily.”

What she had to say about battling her weight:

“I dont remember a time when I didn’t struggle, though Hollywood made it worse. ..I used to get so mad about my hips. Now I appreciate them- they brought Wolfie [her son] into the world. Even when I got really thin, though, I never had an eating disorder. Well, at one point I may have been a little anorexic-I’d go on these super-restrictive diets”

What she would tell other women who are trying to lose weight:

“Do it with a friend, a lover, a husband-you need a buddy. I resisted this until I started Jenny Craig. I didn’t want anyone to know I was dieting. Now I know you need a community around you. Like now, my mom and brother are doing it. This is the first time I’ve done it this way and it works. It’s encouraging to you and you can find joy in other people’s success”
