Are Cell Phones Bad For Your Health?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 at 4:00 pm

Paris_Hilton_pumps_gas_while_talking_into_her_cellphone_in_Los_Angeles.jpg

Paris Hilton was recently photographed talking on her cellphone at a L.A. gas station. Celebrities aren’t the only ones who yap on the cell. Everyone I know has of cell phone, and for some people, it’s there only phone line. But I’ve been concerned about the dangers of cell phones ever since I listened to a NPR report, which outlined the fact that cell phones actually use your head as an antenna - I’m not a scientist, but that can’t be a good thing! For years there has been speculation over the dangers of cell phones, but no hard evidence. After all, it’s not like Verizon and Sprint would be spearheading that kind of research. However, the data is finally here. Take a look at the results of this alarming new study:

Scientists exposed 10 female volunteers to radiation at 900 megahertz from GSM phones to simulate an hour-long phone call. They screened 580 different proteins in their skin cells and found that the numbers of two proteins were altered in all of the volunteers: one protein increased by 89 percent, the other decreased by 32 percent.” - NewScientist.Com

So, what’s the bottom line?

Until now, various studies have claimed that there was no biological impact of RF radiation within the cell phone range. However, this latest research punches a hole in that notion.

Researchers in different countries are finding equally disturbing results that point to far greater health implications than anyone is ready for. Cancer and brain tumors are most often cited as the potential health risks from cell phone radiation. However, cancer is not the only, or the most common, danger that you and your children face. These common illnesses and ailments, have all been scientifically linked to cell phone information-carrying radio waves:
* Alzheimer’s, senility and dementia
* Parkinson’s
* Autism
* Fatigue
* Headaches
* Sleep disruptions
* Altered memory function, poor concentration and spatial awareness - Mercola.com

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 at 3:00 pm

 DrewbarrymooreinmexicowithJustin

Drew Barrymore is featured on the cover of People magazine this week with her boyfriend Justin Long. If you care enough to read the article you will find some interesting facts. For instance, Drew has a ritual of running on the treadmill. She  also “became a devout follower of ballet-influenced Bar Method workout that helped her shed 15 lbs”. Drew has been in the spotlight for so many different reasons through the years so it’s good to see her finally happy and healthy. They wouldn’t put Drew on the cover in her bikini if she didn’t look good. And boy, she does!

Angelina Jolie And Her Kids Hit The Corner Store For Some Munchies

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 at 2:00 pm

Angelina_Jolie_takes_her_kids_to_Corner_Store_in_New_Orleans1.jpg

I want to start this post by giving Angelina Jolie much credit for handling an outing with four kids, zero baby equipment, and no nanny!  Wow - I know the best of soccer moms who couldn’t handle that challenge! Angelina was definitly in mommy-mode Sunday as she took her four kids out for some munchies in New Orleans. What did they get from the corner store:

Shiloh (who turns 2 in May) and Zahara, 3, snacked on Cheetos. Maddox, 6, chugged a bottle of blue Gatorade. Son Pax, 4 — ate some chips. DailyMail.Com

Now an occasional run to the local mini-market, for some unhealthy treats, is completely fine.  And considering how health conscious both Brad and Angie are - I’m sure this was the case.  However, many parents make this type of snacking the norm, which is one of the reasons that the number of obese children in America has tripled since 1980 (CDC).  So what’s a busy mom to do on the go.  Here are my top five favorite healthy snacks to grab when you’re in a rush:

  1. Trail Mix
  2. Popcorn
  3. String Cheeses
  4. Yogurt
  5. Any Fruit or Vegetable

Post A Comment: What’s your take on Angelina’s mothering skills?

Are You Sacrificing Your Health For Fashion?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 at 1:00 pm

 julianne Moore-Marcello Bag

Hey, I’m willing to do just as much as the next girl to look cute, but lately the fashions have been a little..much, for lack of a better word. I don’t know how the rest of you feel, but those big bags that are in look both fashionable and practical. However, beware of the size of your bag. Everyone knows that the bigger the bag you have, the more crap you’re gonna put in it. It allows you to overload your back, neck and shoulders. Carrying a bag more than 10 percent of your body weight leaves you open for problems such as:

“Muscle spasms, slipped disks and herniations,” says Dr. Jeffrey Goldstein, Spine Surgeon at NYU Hospital of Joint Disease.

One way to still look cute and wear the big bag is to alternate sides you carry your bag on. Alternating will help distribute the stress more evenly.

Hope I helped!

BritneySpearscellulite1

That’s right - Britney Spears. This poor girl has enough to worry about - now she has to battle cellulite! Britney reportedly visited a liposuction specialist last year in attempt to banish these cottage cheese like patches from her thighs, but, they’re back! However, Britney is not alone in the cellulite struggle:

Predominantly women are affected by cellulite, although a small percentage of men are too. Cellulite is a problem encountered by many women—in fact, around 90% of women suffer from it, to some degree, on their thighs and buttocks. - www.realsolutionsmag.com

What’s the best way to rid your bod of these unsightly dimples?

Besides liposuction, a low fat diet and intense exercise (especially of the muscles in the area of the butt and thighs) seems to be your best bet.  To maximize your attack strategy, after a good workout:

Hop into the sauna, or steamy bath. Both these treatments help to open up our sweat pores thereby increasing the elimination of toxins. - www.annecollins.com

So what are the best cellulite workouts. To find out continue reading………..
