It’s A Big World Afterall
Here’s some new and interesting news for all of you. If you enjoy or have been to Disneyland, you may be familiar with the Disneyland ride, the Small World. Do any of you think that ride is too small for you to fit in?? Well, according to TMZ it has been closed since January to upgrade its boats - which some think was needed in order to accommodate the ever increasing weight of the general population. There are also some new changes and ideas that are being tossed around as well.
Miceage.com is reporting that Disney Imagineers are considering adding Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Peter Pan, Nemo and other Disney characters to locations throughout the ride while replacing the Papua, New Guinea, rain forest scene with an American tribute.
In an open letter to Disney execs, the family of the ride’s creator writes:
“The Disney characters of themselves are positive company icons, but they do NOT fit in with the original theme of the ride. They will do nothing except to marginalize the rightful stars of the ride ‘The Children of the World.’”
Disney officials say some additions will be made to Small World but that no decision has been made on specific creative changes to the ride despite the speculation.
Post Your Comment: How do you guys feel about all of this and what changes, if any, do you think should be made??

Love that ride. But I’m sure people are larger then they were 25 years ago when I was there. But I think I could still fit in there???
March 24th, 2008 @ 10:07 amThis is so sad and makes me angry at the same time. I think accommodating grossly overweight people doesn’t get the message to them, that they’re not healthy.
March 24th, 2008 @ 1:22 pmMaybe they should accomodate the public by serving only salads (without dressing) all over the park.
March 24th, 2008 @ 1:47 pmI see it both ways.. Business wise; its a good investment for the company because if they cant fit, they wont ride. If they cant fit and they cant ride the rides. They wont pay to get in. The end of Disneyland. OK.. A little exaggeration never hurt anyone. Disneyland can not regulate peoples eating habits but they can make a different size seat for you. Maybe they should just have you must be less than # inches wide to ride this… Not to offend anyone but this is reality.
March 24th, 2008 @ 2:51 pmI love that ride and think it’s a great idea to add some of the characters that are Disney. I don’t think it will take away, only add to.
March 24th, 2008 @ 8:43 pmThey should just modernize it a little without taking away from the original concept. Not sure what to say about making the seats bigger - how embarrassing for the US as a nation!
March 24th, 2008 @ 9:05 pmlove that ride….i first took a ride at the worlds fair in flushing meadow park….
