Khaliah Ali, daughter of boxing champion Muhammad Ali, battled and beat obesity. At her highest, Khaliah weighed 325 pounds and she spent most of her life yo-yo dieting in an attempt to shed the weight. Four years ago, Khaliah decided to undergo a gut-cinching gastric lap-band surgery. This $12,000 to $25,000 procedure is used to help the severely obese. It involves surgically implanting a band around the stomach to shrink it. It is different from gastric bypass surgery in which doctors bypass your intestines and staple your stomach. Instead, the lap-band procedure is less invasive and can be adjusted depending on changes in your lifestyle.

After the surgery, Khaliah quickly shed a 100 pounds and four years later she has kept the weight off through diet and exercise. Khaliah, is now estimated to weigh 158 pounds and she looks fabulous! If you want to learn more about her surgical success pick up her book titled, “Fighting Weight“.

I know someone that just had it done and they have lost about 50 lbs so far. Then a friend of mine knows someone who had it done and they ended up in the hospital for a few days because of a problem with it. Both of these were the lap-band.

My mother had gastric bypass a little over two years ago and lost about 150 lbs. I think, for people who are really ready to change their life style, it’s a great tool. It’s certainly not a cure and there are far too many people doing it that don’t understand that aspect.

    This woman however, looks amazing!
