Geri Halliwell Doesn't Care If Daughter Becomes "Goth Lesbian"

Geri Halliwell says she's going to be a relaxed mom and that no matter which direction her daughter, Bluebell Madonna's life goes in, that she'll stand by her.
"If she turns out to be a goth lesbian who works in dental surgery then that's OK."

She's never going to censor her.
"I'll be absolutely honest with her and not judge her. But equally I'll empower her with education and that's all we can do. The more we censure somebody, the more they're likely to act out. It's about giving boundaries and we all need boundaries. After that I think she'll be a smart enough girl to make her own choices."

Some parents seem to hope that their kids will fit a very specific mold, or even more common...hope they'll become just like mom and dad. I think it's hard for kids to live up to the expectations that their parents hold sometimes.

AWEsome! That's true tolerance and unconditional love right there. Ginger Spice always was my favorite.

Definitely... I agree with that parenting methodolgy. However, thinking of things such as tatoos, I wouldn't allow my children to get any before they're mature enough. I'd tell them that for now I won't allow them to get any (only because they might regret it) but when I see that they're mature enough and are capable of making such a decision properly then they can do as they wish.

Many parents say these things until they are IN the teen years, it is NOT easy to stay so "chill" about things. I do agree with much of what she says, though.

I agree with you #4 - before you have kids, or when they are still little, you always think that you are going to be the coolest mom and give your children freedom, etc etc... Then the teenage years hit... and somewhere along the way you realize how much you love this child and how you want to protect them and you realize you aren't as lenient as you planned. Good luck with that though Geri!

CapturingLife, you said exactly what I was coming here to say.

well, I think lenience and necessary protection can go hand in hand

deep thoughts, who'd guess.... Equally as important to keep your child occupied and have discipline. Many parents fall for traps like being a friend to children. I think it is more important to be a parent, and then let them know you are their friend.

It's a great philosophy towards childrearing to have in theory but in actual fact it is much harder to practice, especially, as #4 pointed out, when one's children become teens and young adults. As parents, all we can do is our best to raise decent, polite, responsible children and hope that life works out well for them in the end.

I think she was trying to say the same thing as #9 -- the best we can do is raise the children well and hope they do well.

I love that she's laughing/smiling while her daughter is throwing a fit- most people would be mortified if their child did that in public let alone with PAPPARAZI around. Geri is a great mom, and definately someone i would be friends with. I hope she finds love again and has another baby too.

Too bad parents are no longer parents but best friends that don't show their kids boundaries and do not punish them. And then we wonder why children feel they can do whatever it is they want to do, like kill people....
