Workout Buddies:Madonna, Gwyneth and Stella

Saturday, May 17th, 2008 at 8:25 am

We can’t get enough of this FitCeleb! Madonna was at it again recently, sweating it out with best buddies Gwyneth Paltrow and Stella McCartney for a hectic workout.  The threesome visited Madonna’s £6milion personal gym - just 20 yards from her front door - for a hardcore training session. Gwyneth arrived in a pair of patent black shoes, cushioned with a plaster on the heel. But by the time she left, clutching a bottle of water, sweat marks stained her purple work out top. Madonna was more casual in her Adidas tracksuit bottoms, and black top (her usual workout gear). The singer has been hitting the treadmill hard lately. Her and Gwyneth even share a personal trainer - fitness guru Tracy Anderson. The pint sized blonde is credited with helping Gwyneth get back her slim figure after the birth of baby Moses in 2006. She has also been working out with Madonna, who turns 50 in August, six times a week for the past year.

Definitely something worth posting about!

Breast Feeding Boosts Intelligence

Friday, May 16th, 2008 at 3:38 pm

This has been speculated for a long time but researchers are saying they have new hard evidence that proves breast feeding improves children’s intelligence. That may be why so many celeb moms, like Angelina Jolie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Salma Hayek, Kelly Ripa, Demi Moore, Madonna, Pamela Anderson, and Faith Hill have chosen to breast feed.

At 6 ½ years, the breast-fed group scored significantly higher on tests of vocabulary, word matching and verbal I.Q., although the differences in several other tests of intelligence were not significant. Teacher ratings of the children were consistently higher for those who were breast-fed.

But, nobody knows if the correlation between intelligence and breast milk is from the nutrients or the bond/interaction between mother and baby.

Cameron Diaz Gets Better With Age

Friday, May 16th, 2008 at 3:21 pm

FitCeleb Cameron Diaz, 35, is speaking to People magazine about how happy she is with her looks, in fact, she thinks she’s getting hotter as she gets older. The actress “had to have work on my nose” after a 2005 surfing accident but, she tells the U.K. Cosmopolitan in its June issue:

“I’d never do anything else. I think beauty comes from the inside. I feel I get better with age … I look at pictures of myself when I was 21 and think, ‘Wow, I didn’t look so bad.’ But I take more care of myself now, so in a way I feel like I look better than I did then …. I feel stronger and more confident.”

However, to her dismay, she’s still battling the occasional breakout.

“Sometimes I’ll look in the mirror and be like, ‘Damn, where did that that come from?’ Seriously! I’m 35 years old. When is this going to stop?!”

Hey, at least we know that FitCelebs are normal and get breakouts, too! I don’t think Cameron has anything to worry about when it comes to her looks- she IS getting better with age!

Friday, May 16th, 2008 at 2:24 pm

While Renee Zellweger was in N.Y.C. she decided to take advantage of all that the city has to offer and go for a brisk walk around Central Park. It’s always good to make a switch and get out of the gym and into nature every once and a while. Getting outside for exercise even helps people who are depressed or who have SAD (Season Affective Disorder)

Kim Cattrall Should Try Water Instead Of Soda

Friday, May 16th, 2008 at 1:18 pm

Even just drinking diet soda can be a health risk. We already know that people who drink diet soda have a higher risk of being overweight, but did you know that drinking diet can also cause metabolic syndrome? The New York Times explains metabolic syndrome:

“metabolic syndrome — the collection of risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes that include abdominal obesity, high cholesterol and blood glucose levels — and elevated blood pressure.”

And if you drink one can of diet soda a day, your risk goes up by 34%. So maybe Kim Cattrall should put down the fizzy beverage and try some good old fashioned water!

Self Magazine has a new book out that teaches women to stay healthy mentally and physically. Here are some great tips from 15 Minutes to your Best Self.

1. Know your family history You’ll reduce your risk for disease and help your M.D. pinpoint the cause of symptoms. Ask relatives general questions and let them volunteer their specifics, experts at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, suggest.

2. Catch your zzz’s Insufficient rest could be as devastating to your health as poor nutrition or lack of exercise, says James B. Maas, Ph.D., professor of psychology at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Snooze for seven to nine hours nightly.

3. Bite right For clear arteries, consume as few trans and saturated fats as possible. Go for monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids. Nuts are a great source, but stick to 1 ounce (23 almonds)—they’re high in calories, too.
