Helen Mirren, Christie Brinkely, and Molly Sims arrived to the opening night of The Metropolitan Opera wearing mermaid style gowns though each had a different take on the trend. Mermaid style is SO IN this season. I never thought twice about the style until my best friend got married in onelast year. Now, since it's on my radar, I don't go a day without finding a set which includes a woman in this type of gown.
The always fabulous Parker Posey also attended the event , but choose a completely different style. Does it work?

Helen Mirren has an interesting reason for admiring young people today. She's impressed with their ability to tell each other off.
'Times have changed,' she said. 'I hate young girls going around beating each other up, but I love the fierceness of young girls nowadays, and the way they just say, '**** off', because I wish I'd been taught to say '**** off' when I was younger. I wish I'd had those words in my arsenal of self-defence.
'Instead, I was polite and didn't have the courage to say that to men who wouldn't accept "no" for an answer. I was very innocent when I went to college in London. I went to a convent school and had never spent a night away from home or gone to parties or any of that.
The actress also made some extremely controversial remarks about rape, talking about her own experiences with date rape and how she doesn't think those sorts of cases should go to court. I'm not going to post the full quote on INO, but you can read it here.

While it may sound like an oxymoron, Helen Mirren insists you can have your cake and eat it too. She says she was the good girl who did drugs.
"I was always a good girl. I always showed up on time. I was never ever late. I never got drunk. I did drugs but only on my own time, not when I was working."
I guess no one is going to fault her even if she does admit to having a bit of a wild past with the kind of track record she's got going for her...Oscar, SAG Awards, Golden Globes, Emmys...she must have a giant trophy room! :)

"I love second-hand shops. Or I make my own clothes because I’ve never found the kinds of things I liked."
-- Helen Mirren
I know so many people that have great luck in second hand stores. Have you ever purchased a great find?

'I'm very vain, which initially made playing Elizabeth Windsor in all those tweeds pretty daunting,' she said. 'But I'm not fond of all those needles and scalpels. I'll try to get away with make-up, jewelery and a nice frock.' (source)
