American Idol alum Gina Glocksen from the sixth season decided to welcome the new year in a big way: she's getting married today!  Gina is marrying Joe Ruzicka, a schoolteacher.  I remember rocker Gina; she always seemed like a genuinely sweet person, despite the "tough" rocker girl look!

Fellow season six American Idol contestants Jordin Sparks and Haley Scarnato are bridesmaids.  I imagine competing on American Idol is an intense experience that could bond people for life.  It's nice to see that some of the contestants become good friends in the process! 

Joe proposed to Gina in August 2007 before a live audience where the top 10 season six Idol contestants were performing. They met in 2005 when she auditioned to sing for his cover band.

Congratulations to the couple!

Weddings during the holidays seems to be becoming more and more popular.  I guess it's good in the sense that not many people have to get time off, but it's a holiday.  What do you think: is it a good idea to get married during the holidays (whether it's New Years or Fourth of July) or not?

Lauren Conrad arrived to The Hope Honors event hosted by The Avon Foundation at Cipriani in NYC last night looking stylish as usual. You know, I think the reason why Lauren has become SO popular is her great sense of style. She reminds me a bit of Nicole Richie and how so often they're photographed because of what they wear. I'm deinitely on the Lauren Conrad bandwagon... :)

Also in attendance was American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, who looked lovely in a black dress and red wool coat, and Patrick Dempsey who can do no wrong in a classic black suit and green eyes. ;)

Jordin Sparks is continuing to keep her promise of abstinence and isn't afraid to talk about it. She joins Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers in this movement of young celebrities being vocal about waiting to have sex until marriage.

"I don’t want to give away bits of my soul to lots of different guys - I want to give all of myself to the right man on the right night, and the right night is my wedding. "You can’t say for sure what’s going to happen in the next five years, but I really can’t see myself breaking my vow. "My family would never let me get out of line and run wild."

But that isn't stopping the American Idol alum from holding a few crushes. One being Mr. Chris Brown (yeah, get in line). 

"Chris is so hot. I had a crush on him for a couple of years and, well, I still do. Rihanna came to the video shoot. I didn’t know they were dating - they were doing the ‘just good friends’ thing in the media - and I thought ‘Oooh, maybe I have a chance’. But it’s not to be. They are a sweet couple. I wish them all the best."

"Because of the risk of permanent vocal cord damage, Sparks has been ordered to strict vocal rest and will not be able to perform anywhere until her condition improves," said a spokesman for the arena at Penn State.
