Are you on the first day of your new weight loss plan for 2009?  Both Oprah Winfrey and Gwyneth Paltrow are talking about losing weight.  Oprah discussed it on her TV show while Gwyneth shared her plan on her website, GOOP.

Oprah blames her weight gain on abusing food to handle an unbalanced life.

It's about using food – abusing food. Too much work. Not enough play. Not enough time to come down. Not enough time to really relax."

She plans to make time in her 14-hour day to exercise.  Life moves so fast these days; it really can be a challenge just to find the time.

Gwyneth, meanwhile, is dealing with seasonal weight gain (I'm sure some of you can relate!)

It is that time of year, folks. I need to lose a few pounds of holiday excess. Anyone else?"

She plans to shed the pounds with a detox.  Gwyneth utilizes the services of a detox diet specialist, and with that person's advice, created a seven-day detox plan that seems to consist of smoothies, soups, and chicken.  

If you are not working with a diet detox specialist, then, as Gwyneth writes, "Make sure you check with your doctor before you start any detox."

Do any of you detox?  Or are you more like Oprah and go the diet and exercise route?

Two hundred pounds, that is.  In a story that I'm sure media mogul Oprah Winfrey hated to write for the January 2009 issue of O Magazine, she admitted to gaining 40 pounds, which puts her total weight at 200.  

I'm embarrassed … I can't believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I'm still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, 'How did I let this happen again?' " 

Oprah wrote that thyroid problems started the weight gain because her "out of balance" thyroid made her fearful of exercising.  Then she started to eat whatever she wanted... and we all know how that ends.

We can all relate to gaining unwanted pounds and to have it happen in the public eye makes me shudder.  At least Oprah is brave enough to talk about it openly.

It is Angelina Jolie's time to shine.  If falling in love with Brad Pitt, having six beautiful children, serving as a United Nation's ambassador, and starring in a number of hit movies weren't enough proof that Angelina's time has come, here's another one:

Oprah Winfrey has been sued by the headmistress, Nomvuyo Mzamane, of her school in South Africa, the South African Leadership Academy for Girls.  Nomvuyo has filed a civil suit because she says that Oprah,

"launched what amounted to a defamatory campaign" against Mzamane late last year (07) by implying that Mzamane is "untrustworthy, failed the students of the academy, did not care about the students at the academy, knew of alleged physical and sexual abuse at the academy and participated in a cover-up of the alleged abuse."

It was about a year ago that Oprah first told the media that one of the dorm matrons had assaulted and abused six students at the school.

Really, how can you fight Oprah?  At best Nomvuyoc could get some kind of payout, and at worst her lawyers will most likely be crushed by Oprah's top notch legal team.  We all know Oprah can afford the best.
